Whippleova bolest: crijevna upala i pomalo zaboravljeni klinički entitetWhipple’s disease: intestinal inflammation and a somewhat forgotten clinical entity

Whippleova bolest rijetka je, sustavna infektivna bolest koju uzrokuje bakterija Tropheryma whipplei. Bolest najčešće pogađa sredovječne muškarce bijele rase. Klinički se očituje artralgijama, proljevom, abdominalnim bolovima i gubitkom tjelesne mase. Whippleova bolest primarno zahvaća tanko crijevo, no istodobno mogu biti zahvaćeni i drugi organski sustavi. Dijagnoza se najčešće postavlja uzimanjem biopsija tankoga crijeva, a liječenje uključuje primjenu antibiotika. Neliječena bolest može imati fatalni tijek

Whipple’s disease is a rare systemic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Tropheryma whipplei which affects mostly middle-aged white men. Patients present with arthralgia, diarrhea, abdominal pain and weight loss. Whipple’s disease primarily affects the small intestine, but several organs can simultaneously be involved.
